Target Audience

Starting drivers with little or no experience.

Objectives

Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to learn how to operate an electric pallet jack effectively and safely.

To train the operators so that they can preventively report defects/faults and thus prevent accidents/injuries.

To teach operation, load handling and driving techniques to reduce damage to the environment caused by transportation.

Course content

THEORY

  • Exercising a safety function.
  • The different types of electric pallet trucks and their characteristics.
  • The safety regulations: environmental hazards, driving techniques and safety rules when driving.
  • Inspection of devices as lifting equipment.
  • Risks and carrying out a Last Minute Risk Analysis.
  • Important concepts regarding the structure of the electric pallet truck and its controls.
  • Battery life, maintenance, changing and charging.
  • Stability concepts.
  • Reading a load diagram.
  • Correct and safe load handling.
  • The elements comprising the start control, the notification requirement and the procedure for taking the device out of service.

 

PRACTICE

  • Perform start-up check, recognise dangerous defects and report them.
  • Check inspection documents and apply safety rules.
  • Use controls correctly.
  • Connect and disconnect batteries.
  • Using good driving technique: forward and reverse, turning, parking.
  • Interacting with pedestrians and other drivers.
  • Performing the correct sequence of operation.
  • Estimating distances, depth and height.
  • Picking up and returning loads in narrow spaces.
  • Moving loads through narrow passages.
  • Applying order and tidiness and setting up the appliance safely.
