Module 2: Safety Management System (SMS)

Objectives

This self-paced online training course has been designed to equip newcomers to the aviation industry, encompassing service providers and airline frontline staff, with a comprehensive comprehension of the fundamental principles and concepts underpinning Safety Management Systems (SMS).

Upon completing this training, participants will gain the requisite knowledge, proficiency, and mindset to foster their organization’s SMS and enhance aviation safety overall.

Course content

At the end of the course, graduates will be able to

  • Understand the regulations and guidelines related to an airport’s safety management system;
  • Be able to describe the organisational nature of accidents and incidents;
  • Describe the main objectives of an SMS and compare them with a traditional approach to safety;
    • Understand the basic safety processes of an SMS, how they identify hazards and can mitigate the safety risks associated with them;
    • Describe the common features between an SMS and a QMS (Quality Management System); and
    • Be able to describe the benefits of an SMS.

Module 3: Airside Safety

Objectives

The training is a comprehensive course on the principles and rules of airside safety.

After successful completion of this training, you will be aware of the main safety measures and procedures applicable on airside and possess the necessary knowledge to work safely on airside at Brussels Airport.

Course content

The principles of safety, the different markings, and the lights on the apron.

The risks of – and possible consequences of FOD (Foreign Object Debris) in the active operational areas of the airport.

Module 4: Security Awareness

2 hours E-learning

Objectives

According to Chapter 11.2.7 of Regulation (EU) No 2015/1998, persons other than passengers who need unescorted access to security-restricted areas must undergo general security awareness training.

Course content

At the end of this course, you will have

  • Knowledge of past unlawful acts in civil aviation, terrorist attacks, and current threats;
  • Knowledge of applicable legal requirements;
  • Knowledge of the objectives and organisation of aviation security in their working environment, including the duties and responsibilities of those performing security controls;
  • Knowledge of reporting procedures;
  • Ability to respond appropriately to security incidents.
