Target Audience

• This training is aimed at first responders from private companies and public institutions.

Objectives

• Becoming aware of the importance of fire prevention in everyday life.
• Acting quickly and efficiently in the event of a fire
• Being able to recognise the first intervention tools and using them correctly.
• Being aware of the dangers of fire and fires.
• Estimating the possibilities of a first intervention.
• To acquire basic theoretical knowledge about fire.

Course content

Theory

• Knowing the role and mission of an emergency response team in starting and fighting a fire and its daily preventive tasks.
• To get an idea of the number and frequency of fires in Belgium
• Know what to do in case of fire and in what order
• Knowing the consequences of exposure to smoke and the dangers resulting from it
• To know the elements necessary to have a fire.
• Knowledge of the different fuels and their properties
• Acquiring knowledge of fire causes and the related fire prevention measures.
• Knowledge of rules to prevent the start, development and spread of fire.
• Ability to recognise extinguishing agents and to choose the most efficient extinguishing agent according to the type of fire.

Practice

• Use of a wet mop, fire blanket, demonstration of incorrect use of water.
• Demonstration of the use and functions of first aid equipment: CO2 – powder – water & additive – fire reel.
• Explanation of the technique for opening a door safely + demonstration.
• Demonstration of the use and functions of fire hose reels
• Being able to extinguish an electrical appliance in all safety.
• Individual fire extinguisher exercise – Practice of correct and safe use
• Scenario of a fire in a room: opening the door; assessing the fire; ensuring a free escape route; extinguishing the fire; closing the door; organising evacuation: Evacuation in group in case of flames and smoke; to be able to estimate the difficulty of an evacuation with limited visibility. Practising the technique of moving in group.
