Target Audience

Any employee who has to carry out simple operations with a forklift truck in a warehouse or production environment (tasks of low difficulty, in an open space, simple repetitive work with no time pressure).

Objectives

Acquire the knowledge and skills needed to drive a forklift efficiently and safely.

Train operators so that they can report faults/disturbances in a preventive manner and thus avoid accidents/injuries.

Teach operating, load handling, and driving techniques to reduce environmental damage caused by transport.

Course content

THEORY

  • Performing a safety function.
  • The different versions of a forklift.
  • Safety rules: safe assembly and disassembly, safety cage, environmental risks, driving safety rules.
  • Inspection according to equipment application.
  • Important concepts concerning the structure of a forklift and its controls.
  • Forklift construction specifications.
  • Stability concepts.
  • Steering of three- and four-wheel vehicles and their behaviour when cornering.
  • Advantages and disadvantages of electric or thermal drive.
  • Reading a load diagram.
  • Handling loads correctly and safely.
  • Approaching, picking up and moving loads.
  • The elements of the commissioning check, the obligation to notify, and the procedure for taking the device out of service.
  • Correct parking and checks after work.
  • Connecting, disconnecting, changing, and maintaining batteries.

PRACTICE

  • Perform start-up checks, recognise dangerous defects and report them.
  • Check inspection documents and apply safety rules apply.
  • Use controls correctly.
  • Using good driving technique: forward and reverse, turning, parking.
  • Interacting with pedestrians and other drivers.
  • Performing the correct sequence of operation.
  • Estimating distances, depth and height.
  • Approaching, picking up and moving loads.
  • Entering and exiting warehouse racks.
