Objectives

This course is applicable to (future) personnel involved in airport warehouse operations. It includes several objectives to ensure a thorough knowledge of the applicable measures for the safe handling and storage of air cargo.

On completion of the course, the candidate will be able to

  • Understand the airport environment, specific terminologies in English, air flow and its position in the supply chain
  • Apply the basic rules of airport safety and security (airside safety / security awareness)
  • Interpret basic human factors concepts and recognise, understand and mitigate the impact of human factors and airside errors.
  • Control, handle, store and determine the airworthiness and weight limits of the ULD.
  • Summarise the ULD certification process.
  • Identify the different types of ULDs and their load capacity
  • Know how to plan and limit cargo when distributing the load in/on a ULD for an aircraft
  • Understand the storage and distribution processes applied to pharmaceutical products in the supply chain.
  • Understand the regulations relating to the labelling, packaging, and storage of hazardous materials.

  • The air cargo flow and the role of the different stakeholders
  • General security awareness based on the European Regulation 2015/1998 chapter 11.2.7.
  • Airside safety:

    • Jet blast and engine intake
  • Human Factors:
    • Understanding Human Factors
    • Human Factors and Airport Safety
    • Managing Human Factors Errors
  • Warehouse processes and safety
  • Construction of LDUs
    • ULD functions and certification requirements
    • Handling, storage, airworthiness and loading capacity of ULDs
    • Planning of ULDs in size/ contour and maximum weight for different aircraft types according to ULDR/AHM
    • Setting up ULDs for aircraft and cargo limitation according to UL DR/AHM
  • Observe in the field the implementation of ULDs
  • Loading of non-standard cargo such as AVI, PER and dangerous goods
  • Net securing
  • Checking for compliance with airworthiness standards and setting up a ULD at a basic level.
  • How to ensure the safety of pharmaceutical products before or during transport, storage or transhipment.
  • Identification and classification of dangerous goods
  • Recognise and identify dangerous goods labels and packaging specification markings
  • Be familiar with the shipper’s declaration and other relevant documents
  • Be familiar with the allowances applicable to dangerous goods contained in passenger and crew baggage
  • Be familiar with emergency response procedures for dangerous goods
