Target Audience

Any employee who has to carry out simple operations with a forklift truck in a warehouse or production environment (tasks of low difficulty, in an open space, simple repetitive work with no time pressure).

Objectives

Acquire the knowledge and skills needed to learn how to drive a forklift efficiently and safely.

Train operators so that they can report faults/disturbances in a preventive manner and thus avoid accidents/injuries.

Teach operating, load handling and driving techniques to reduce environmental damage caused by transport.

Course content

THEORY

  • Performing a safety function.
  • The different versions of a forklift.
  • Safety rules: safe assembly and disassembly, safety cage, environmental risks, driving safety rules.
  • Inspection according to equipment application.
  • Important concepts concerning the structure of a forklift and its controls.
  • Forklift construction specifications.
  • Stability concepts.
  • Steering of three- and four-wheel vehicles and their behaviour when cornering.
  • Advantages and disadvantages of electric or thermal drive.
  • Reading a load diagram.
  • Handling loads correctly and safely.
  • Approaching, picking up and moving loads.
  • The elements of the commissioning check, the obligation to notify, and the procedure for taking the device out of service.
  • Correct parking and checks after work.
  • Connecting, disconnecting, changing, and maintaining batteries.

PRACTICE

  • Carry out start-up checks, recognise dangerous faults, and report them.
  • Check inspection documents and apply safety rules.
  • Use the controls correctly.
  • Use good driving techniques: forwards and backwards, bends, parking.
  • Interacting with pedestrians and other drivers.
  • Performing the correct sequence of operations.
