Target Audience

Any person, with or without experience, who needs to operate an AWP.

Objectives

Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to learn how to operate an AWP effectively and safely.

To train the operators so that they can preventively report defects/faults and thus prevent accidents/injuries.

To teach operation and driving techniques to reduce damage to the environment caused by transportation.

Course content

THEORY

  • Interpreting and respecting a work permit.
  • The different types of AWPs and their limitations.
  • The safety regulations: getting on and off safely, maximum platform load, staying within the work platform, electrocution hazards, environmental risks, wearing fall protection, demarcating the workplace, signalling rules when driving.
  • Inspection of devices as lifting equipment.
  • Important concepts relating to AWP structure and controls.
  • Concepts relating to stability.
  • The different types of drives with their field of application: electric and thermal.
  • The elements that make up the start control, the notification requirement and the procedure for taking the device out of service.
  • The safe lifting and towing of an AWP.
  • Checks to be carried out after work: correct parking, battery charging, refuelling.

PRACTICE

  • Perform start-up checks, recognise and report dangerous defects.
  • Check inspection documents and apply safety rules.
  • Put on and anchor fall protection correctly.
  • Use controls correctly and operate emergency descent system.
  • Connect and disconnect batteries.
  • Using proper driving technique: forward and reverse, turning, parking.
  • Performing the correct sequence of operation.
  • Assessing distances, depth and height.
