Target Audience

People who inspect scaffolding.

Objectives

Learning to effectively check scaffolds, identify imperfections, be able to prepare a correct report of findings and declare the scaffolds safe or not.

Course content

THEORY

  • The hazards/risks of working at height and on a scaffold.
  • To name and describe different types.
  • The different strength classes.
  • The principles of legislation and standards.
  • The responsibilities of all involved in the use and erection of scaffolding.
  • Components, characteristics, requirements, dimensions and rejection criteria.
  • Types of anchors and the principles of diagonals.
  • Types of beams and their properties.
  • Determine stability of work floors.
  • Define loads on the working floor.
  • Requirements for passageways and demarcations.
  • When earthing is necessary and how to apply it.
  • Observation and inspection of different types of scaffolding.

PRACTICE

  • Making calculations and preparing the necessary documents.
  • Using a checklist and reviewing inspections.
  • Observing a standing rack, a rolling rack and a hanging rack for safe/unsafe conditions (in photographs).
  • Correctly determine stability and good condition of components.
  • Determine protection against tilting and collapse.
  • Check that scaffold floors are safe and in satisfactory condition.
  • Check accesses to scaffolding and passageways on scaffolding.
  • Check whether earthing is required and whether it is properly installed.
  • Check safety measures about loads on the work floors and the scaffolding.
